Overview
Wonka is a modern, musical take on the story of Willy Wonka — before he meets Charlie at his famous chocolate factory. It’s all about his humble beginnings as he tries to amaze the world with his magical sweets. Willy is played by the incredible Timothée Chalamet, alongside an equally stellar cast, which makes for entertaining and whimsical movie that families have loved. But just in case, here are some things you may want to know before watching with your kids.
Harmful Content ❗️
This movie has little to no content that is overtly harmful or too adult. Characters experience some hardships, such as an orphan girl who is mistreated by her caretakers. These caretakers exhibit greed and dishonesty, but they are portrayed as the “bad guys” compared to the kindness and honesty of others.
Language
There is no adult language, though there is some name-calling and insults between characters.
Sex
There is some brief flirting and suggestive language between two characters, but nothing too explicit.
Violence
Wonka includes some slapstick comedy and moments where characters are in brief peril. But it’s not considered a violent movie.
Positive Value 💫
Wonka celebrates imagination and the importance of chasing your dreams, despite the odds. Willy is unceasingly optimistic and values the friendships he makes throughout the movie. The movie is entertaining, moving, silly, and inspiring all at once. And bonus for musical lovers — the soundtrack is a great sing-a-long!
So, should my kid watch it?
Yes! We’d recommend this movie for ages around 8 and up.
